Periodontists Help Ensure Gum Health

December 28, 2020

As adults, many sorts of physical problems tend to assail us.  Among them are difficulties with your teeth, which can present themselves in a number of ways and degrees of seriousness. Because of their diversity, many different types of dentists have devoted their studies to particular problems that affect your dental health.

At the office of Rockville Centre for Dentistry, our skilled practitioners are trained periodontists — with expertise in issues relating to the gums, bones, and tissues that support the teeth. We are probably the first dentists you will need when problems appear.  When these signs first develop, probably during a routine visit, preventative measures are taken, from routine cleaning to deep cleaning around the teeth, and possibly antibiotics, to restore gum health.

Once patients show signs of bone loss around their teeth during a routine visit, a deep cleaning is generally scheduled, often using antibiotics, to restore healthy gums. A deep cleaning is usually necessary when a patient hasn’t visited any types of dentists for awhile, they’re experiencing excessive bleeding and inflammation, or they may have unhealthy levels of bacteria or tartar under the gums.

Diseased areas of the gums require the kind of care that periodontists are trained to treat.  When deep cleaning is not sufficient, there are additional procedures available, such as removal of excess gums, doing gum grafts where the diseased area lacks tissue, and treating gums that are irregular in shape or recessed.  When needed, dental implants and crowns can replace missing teeth, and laser surgery can now regenerate gum tissues.

At the office of Rockville Centre for Dentistry, our staff dedicates itself to restore the health of your teeth and mouth. We also seek to educate our patients in the proper use of home care, so that such difficulties can be avoided in the future. Find out more by giving us a call today.
