Periodontal care is needed when you are having problems with gum disease. Either you are developing gum disease, or you have gum disease and you want your gums to become healthy again. When you come to our periodontal practice, you will have a thorough periodontal exam which will not only carefully assess your gum health, but also look into other reasons why you may be experiencing gum problems. During the periodontal exam, all of the teeth will be charted and special notations will be made about each tooth. Our periodontist will determine the depth of the pockets between the teeth and gums. These measurements will be taken again at a later date after treatment has occurred to determine whether or not the treatment is being successful. Notations will also be made regarding to gum recession or any tooth movement. Both of these conditions are related to gum disease. While gum recession cannot be reversed, it can be halted as gums become healthy again. In mild to moderate cases of gum disease, our periodontist can provide you with a periodontal scaling and root planing treatment which will remove all materials from the deep pockets that have formed between the teeth and gums. In more serious cases of gum disease, dental surgery may be needed to help reduce pocket depths. Taking measurements on a periodic basis will be a way to clearly show what type of treatment is being effective, and what type of treatment is needed to be provided next by your periodontist Rockville Centre.
